God, this is going to be a disaster of epic proportions.
I mean, I like Guy Ritchie movies as much as the next guy, but the script sounds awful, the studio wants it to be PG-13 (to be fair, a movie about an alien biker mercenary pretty much has 13-year-old mindset written all over it) and most importantly, no one who is not a comic geek has ever heard of him. If this actually makes it to the filming process with director and script intact, I'll eat my friggin' hat.
But just in case... actor speculation? Can we just assume it's Vinnie Jones?

I agree that the concept of the character is juvenile, but given the content of Lobo comics, this should be rated R. I also like Guy Ritchie, but I seriously don't think that there's enough good material to base a movie off of the comics. They're going to have to do some fancy footwork to make this obscure character appealing to a wide audience. Actually I take that back: guns + explosions + cheesy one-liners + scantily-clad women = summer blockbuster pretty easily. I think Vinnie would probably be a good pick, but we'll see. Studios have been doing good things with "no-name" actors in comic films ever since Hugh Jackman brought Wolvy to life in the original X-Men (2000).
ReplyDeleteI personally want to know how they are going to attempt to turn the Lobo story into something that is up to Hollywood's standards. Lobo is a bad person...Not just a good guy with a few bad tendencies, but a general bad guy. I have money on him becoming a good guy by the end of the movie.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't surprise me if that happened, and it's too bad because it's so fun when the protagonist is a "bad guy".
